The dialogue, held under the theme “More Professional, Efficient, and Friendly Cooperation for Safer Islands,” brought together key representatives from Pacific nations to discuss shared challenges and opportunities in policing and security.

In his remarks, Minister Tikoduadua emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and security within the Pacific, echoing the vision of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka for the Pacific to be an “Ocean of Peace.” He highlighted the need for cooperation between the Pacific Island nations and China in strengthening law enforcement and addressing transnational security threats.

“Fiji engages with China on a broad spectrum of issues, and our partnership is guided by the principles of mutual respect, respect for sovereignty, and win-win cooperation,” Minister Tikoduadua said. “This dialogue is an important platform for us to enhance the professional capacities of our police forces and build more secure, stable communities across the Pacific.”

The Minister further acknowledged China’s longstanding support in providing training and logistical assistance to Pacific Island police forces, which has been pivotal in addressing the evolving security landscape of the region. China’s contributions to global peacekeeping missions were also recognised as an example of their commitment to fostering global peace and stability.

Minister Tikoduadua highlighted China’s recent collaborative efforts, including its poverty alleviation initiatives, which directly impact safety and security across Pacific communities. He emphasised the importance of continued engagement in capacitybuilding initiatives as the region navigates security challenges.

“As we reflect on the progress made since the last dialogue, it is clear that proactive and sustained cooperation is key to addressing the security issues we face as a region. Fiji remains committed to advancing our collective efforts to ensure a safer, more secure, and prosperous future for all Pacific Island nations,” Minister Tikoduadua concluded.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for hosting the dialogue and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to strengthening its cooperation with China and other Pacific nations through police capacity building and security initiatives.
